Pre-Physical Therapy

Mercyhurst students get some therapeutic exercise during a lab demonstration at Presque Isle State Park, a great source of recreation and relaxation in the Erie area.
Physical Therapist
As a College that prides itself on immersing students in practical experiences and training, students will find they are well-prepared for progression into Physical Therapy School. Physical Therapists practice in hospitals, clinics, and private offices to provide services for individuals suffering from injuries or diseases. Responsibilities typical of physical therapists include improving mobility, restoring anatomical function, relieving pain, and preventing or limiting physical disabilities for their patients.
Preparation
The Sports Medicine major is a popular choice for students interested in meeting the requirements for admission into Physical Therapy School, but Biology majors and some majors in other disciplines, with guidance form the Pre-Health Advisor at Mercyhurst, will also meet these requirements.
The Mercyhurst Advantage
In addition to a traditional four year course of study, Mercyhurst offers an accelerated track for completion of pre-Physical Therapy coursework that only takes three years. This program is in cooperation with Gannon University, another school in the Erie area, where the students will finish the remaining three years of education and receive a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.
